Description: Balicasag is an amazing island off the coast of Bohol. The entire island is surrounded by one white sand beach. It is encased by coral gardens that extend from the beach to a wall that encircles the entire island. The visibility is excellent at about 120ft as you can see the bottom of the wall before you even descend, not to mention turtles munching on the sea grass visible from the boat. Another factor that makes Balicasag special is the current. It is just enough so that you don’t have to swim at all but float peacefully along the wall at a leisurely pace. Dove in October 2015
Highlights: A school of very large Barracuda let me get super close multiple times during a few different dives. Lost count of how many turtles we saw during one of the wall dives, must have been close to 20. Multiple Giant Frogfish.
Dive sites: Cathedral, Turtle Point, Black Forest (the best dive site), Sanctuary, and Divers Haven.
Best for viewing: Both Hawksbill and Green Sea Turtles, giant schools fish such as barracuda, snappers, and jacks. Wonderful coral gardens, spectacular wall dives, and coral slopes.
